On Sunday, I had a quiet and easy day. I puttered around my apartment until around 11:30 and then I headed out to catch the bus which I understood was coming shortly. I wasn't sure where the bus stop was, but a kind college kid passing showed me where to stand. He also pointed to a sign with the timetable on it a half a block away and said I might want to check the time.
I was confident a bus would be by shortly as I had seen them arrive regularly all day the previous day. I waited. It was only 80 degrees--that's nothing for an Arizona gal. However, all that sun was beginning to fry my skin so I pulled out my umbrella which I had put in my backpack in case it RAINED. Instant shade. I waited. And I waited. And I waited some more. Now a true dilemma appears. Do I leave the bus stop to walk back and check the timetable? For sure, if I do, the bus will come. It will leave without me since I'm not at the bus stop.
I'm stuck. I must wait. I can't chance it. 30, 40, 50 minutes have gone by. I'm sure the bus is coming any moment.
I began to ponder the situation. It was all about having knowledge. I was ignorant of the time table. I didn't have information. Better information would have allowed me to go sit in the shade across the street on this bench and arise with 5 minutes to go until the bus arrived. Better information would have allowed me to choose to stay at my apartment and exit with enough time to walk to the bus stop in a timely manner.
To me, at that moment, knowledge was everything. I didn't have it.
Life lesson: Knowledge makes for a better life. You have choices when you have knowledge. Wandering blindly without knowledge is fruitless. Knowledge is the only thing that is guaranteed to follow you into your next journey with you leave this life. You take nothing else but the knowledge you've gained.
I had some philosophical thoughts that Sunday.
Another 45 minutes. The bus finally arrived and I got on it. Whew! Yes!!!
It drove 75 yards and turned into a parking lot where it pulled up to the station and stopped. It announced for everyone to get off. "Hey, lady in red, you have to get off too."
I just got on!!!
But it wasn't all bad. The station was the exact station needed to access the skyride gondolas I had been looking at from my bedroom window for days. I wanted to ride them, and here I was! The beauty of traveling without an itinerary you have to keep to was just made evident. :)
The view revealed a bounty of things
I also saw the KOA Campground version of CH. I'm sure they didn't call it KOA, but it sure was cool to see it. And it was located just across the street from my apartment! Those people had the same place to stay and paid a significantly less amount. Now....if I could just talk myself into camping.... :)
There was the ski lodge where hundreds would throng in just a few months. It was waiting.
Then, I heard the beautiful sound of the Swiss cow bells. I began to look for the cows and, sure enough, there they were.
With the summit, perspective arrives
My slow and calming ride to the peak revealed the awesome majesty of the Alps. I was on the backside of Jungfrau (the peak I talked about in my first blog). I saw all the peaks side by side. I saw the glaciers on each peak. That caused me to think about how many hundreds or thousands of years that ice had been there. Moving maybe one inch a year. And how they are melting at an alarming rate in current times. It was such a feeling of awe. In the true sense of the word.
There was a lovely little playground area for families with children. Naturally, Mate and Howler just had to have a break.
And, Sarah, there was a sight that was of interest to you. You and Sean Todd (her Jack Russell Terrier). Don't ya just love the pic of the dog pooping on the green bin??? lol Imagine having the job to empty that trash bin. Hmmm....if it meant I could live in CH, maybe I'd consider it. :)
The awesome wrap-up
The Eiger is one of these famous peaks. It is featured in a movie starring Clint Eastwood called The Eiger Sanction. Makes me want to Netflix that movie tonight and enjoy my chocolate bar while watching. Hey....not a bad idea! Go for it! CYA later!
